ClientBridge
Client Bridging is one DD-WRT's many features. This allows the router to bridge wired devices to the wireless network, which helps when a wired device must be located where there is no wired port available. The router can bridge as many as five devices (using both LAN and WAN ports) to the wireless network.
- In Wireless -> Basic Settings:
- under Wireless Mode choose Client Bridge
- under Wireless Network Name (SSID) enter desired wireless network name to be accessed
- click Apply Settings
- In Wireless -> Wireless Security:
- under Security Mode choose desired method
- enter appropriate key
- click Apply Settings
- In Setup -> Basic Setup:
- Enter Router Name as desired
- Enter values for:
- Local IP Address (router's own static IP address)
- Subnet Mask
- check Assign WAN Port to Switch checkbox (Optional. This allows all five RJ45 ports to be used by wired devices)
- click Apply Settings
This will reboot the router, and in a minute or two the router will be in the Client Bridge mode.
Now attach devices to the LAN (and optionally WAN) ports. They will appear to be attached to the wired network!
A Client Bridging configured unit can quickly become a simple 5-Port Switch by disabling the radio.
NOTE: It is important to avoid wired/wireless loops in routing. Do not enable the radio in Client Bridging mode if the unit is also attached to the network with a wired cable.
