IMPORTANT NOTE

2014-04-02: As it turns out, all of the de-burping that I did (using the files stored on the iMacG5, instead of those on the Seagate Backup Plus external drive, are files that have not had the R/L tracks swapped to L/R. Only the external drive has those files. Argh! So, I need to detect each file that has been de-burped and then do the channel swap to it, before I transcode the WAV files to MP3.

DE-BURPING RECIPE

Burps are short (roughly .34 second) repetitions of a portion of the recording. This turns out to be exactly 16,384 samples, which equates to 32,768 bytes.
Using Audacity, the simplest way to remove the burp is:
- change the bottom status bar to indicate time in 'samples' and use 'Length'
- load the WAV file
- locate the burp
- identify the 'first' chunk of sound which is followed by the 'second' chunk of repeated sound
- anywhere within the 'first' chunk place the editing cursor
- on the bottom status bar, enter 16,384 in the length field (samples), which will select the duplicated sound
- use top menu to select: Edit->Remove Audio or Labels->Cut (or use APPLE-X shortcut on Mac)
- save the edited WAV file
Repeat for each file containing a 'burp'.
