- 2022-01-25 - Cabinet Hinges : Have two broken built-in cabinet hinges (it appears that they are 130-degree swing hinges). Need to find replacements. Markings:
- molded, inset door hinge "Mepla 674.229.53.00 Made in Austria"
- pot metal doorjamb base plate "346.290.51.03 Made in W. Germany"
- pot metal base plate stand-off "591.290.00/00 Made in W. Germany"
- I found a perfect match for the two hinges on eBay, and was able to purchase them, roughly ~$20 each.
- 2023-11-04 : Master Bathroom lower-left hinge on left door of west cabinet broke. The mounting plate snapped in two.
- Searching found no perfect matches as before but I used the 'find-a-hinge' feature at HardwareSource.com (San Diego) which kicked of an email discussion with "Dominick" in Customer Support. He asked for a few measurements and recommended a suitable replacement hinge made by Grass (also of Germany/Austria):
- Item 701800: Grass 346.290.88.00 backplate
- Item 701802: Grass 220 M 110-degree hinge
- I purchased 12 hinges + backplates for about $6 each.
- I removed an old Mepla hinge from the lower-left window seat cabinet in the West Bedroom and used that as a replacement in the Master Bathroom; then installed two new Grass hinges with matching backplates in the window seat cabinet. These new hinges are a pretty good match and the 110-degree swing is not a problem with that particular window seat since the surrounding side walls preclude opening the doors beyond about 110 degrees.
