Netgear WNR834B v2
- 4MB ROM / 16MB RAM
- Purchased 2013-10-24 from Deseret Industries w/ power adapter for $5.
- Factory firmware v2.1.13 installed, with MAC of 00:1F:33:BE:6D:4C.
- 2015-04-12: Upgraded to DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) mini (SVN revision 14896), via the Netgear Firmware Upgrade GUI, using the instructions given in the DD-WRT wiki:
- 2015-04-12: Attempted to upgrade to the DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) Standard using the DD-WRT Firmware Upgrade GUI, but it failed. The browser spins for a few moments then comes back with an "Upgrade Failed" message, but fortunately the router is unaffected and is still functional with the 'old' firmware. Note: file too large; see below
- 2015-04-12: Upgrade to generic DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) mini (r14896) was successful.
- 2015-04-14: Upgrade to generic DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) std-nokaid (r14929) was successful!
- This Netgear router has an extra flash memory partition that holds the MAC address, etc., and this makes the flash memory just a tiny bit too small for the normal Standard build. The Nokaid build has all the capabilities of the Standard build, but has the KAI feature disabled. So it fits. This knowledge was gained by browsing the DD-WRT wiki and forums.
- Also, even thought he DD-WRT.com database search shows build r14896 as the newest for this router, by going to the Other Downloads section and navigating to Downloads › others › eko › BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2 › 2010 › 08-12-10-r14929 › broadcom I was able to locate the 14929 builds. Again, comments on the forums by one of the DD-WRT experts suggested r14929 has his vote for the best build for these older routers.
- 2023-02-08 upgraded to DD-WRT v3.0-r44715 std (11/03/20) using the previous DD-WRT GUI Administration interface.
