DD-WRT /
Linksys WRT56G v6 #2
- Purchased 2015-03-25 from Deseret Industries w/o power adapter for $3.
- Factory firmware v1.02.2 (2007-06-07) installed, with MAC of 00:18:F8:62:82:68.
- 2MB ROM / 8MB RAM
- Upgraded on 2015-03-26 to DD-WRT DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) micro (14929) using instructions given in the DD-WRT wiki:
- http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G_v5.0_%26_5.1_%26_6.0 (local copy)
- I 'built' a VXKiller bin file with the routers WAN address using vximgtoolgui.exe, saving it as WRT54Gv6_00-18-F8-62-82-68.bin.
- Flashed vxworks_prep_03.bin using the Linksys Firmware Upgrade GUI page. WAIT FIVE MINTUES!
- Now in Management Mode, I flashed the customized VXKiller bin file that I built in the first step. WAIT FIVE MINUTES!
- Then, using the TFTP mode, I flashed the DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) micro firmware. WAIT FIVE MINUTES!
- $ tftp -l dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic_r14929.bin -p 192.168.1.1
- I had some trouble with step #3. For some unknown reason, the unit would go 'off-line' about five seconds after power up. I didn't know this, all I saw was the Management Mode screen on my browser. But by the time I filled in the form, the unit was off-line and submitting the form to upgrade the software always failed, at the browser level. At last, after using ping to learn about the short window of accessability, I loaded the form quickly during one power up, then filled in the form BUT DIDN'T SUBMIT IT YET, then, power cycled the router and submitted the form. At last I got a Update Successful response and I could perform the next steps.
