DD-WRT /
Linksys WRT56G v1.1
- Acquired from Marlon Snow upon his household move, 2018-04-21.
- Factory firmware v1.2.8 (date unknown) installed, with MAC of 00:0C:41:74:D2:81.
- 4MB ROM / 16MB RAM
- 2018-05-04: Upgraded to DD-WRT v24-sp2 (11/02/09) standard (revision 13064M), using instructions given in the DD-WRT wiki:
- Reset to factory defaults in Linksys firmware.
- Installed the 'mini' version of DD-WRT first, as recommended, then upgraded to the 'standard' version. This system's wi-fi would not receive packets, unless using build r13064 (see notes below).
- Power-cycled the router.
- Refreshed browser to 192.168.1.1, and saw the ordinary DD-WRT screen asking to change credentials.
- With a 4MB flash ROM, this router supports not only the mini build, but also the standard, and micro builds. Can use the DD-WRT web-GUI to reflash firmware as desired, after the initial DD-WRT trailing build installation.

- 2023-02-10: Upgraded to DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/18/09) std - build 13491M VINT Eko. DO NOT UPGRADE TO ANY OTHER FIRMWARE This is the best firmware for this old unit. Other newer builds will not work, I tried various builds and they failed for one reason or another. (see notes below)
- Notes/Observations:
- I first tried to install my preferred build, r14929, which installed and functioned correctly, except that the Wi-Fi would not receive data.
- I got the same results with recommended build (dd-wrt.com database), r14896; the Wi-Fi would not receive packets.
