SpringWinder

Completed the winder today. The last couple of things to do were:
- Prepare the slot in a larger sleeve for Kundo clocks
- I purchased yesterday from Lowe's a 1-1/4" copper pipe 'connector' sleeve. This is just right and just shy of being too big to fit within the barrel when the spring is wound tightly around the arbor. I cut a slot 3/4" deep and 3/8" wide for the mainspring end that connects to the barrel pin.
- Add hook to allow unwinding of spring from sleeve
- For the hook, I used the larger 3" Gate Hook & Eye hardware that I bought a couple of weeks ago. Here are the key steps:
- I removed the screw eye from each hook
- Straighted the kink in each shaft near the hook end
- Cut one hook short, using a slant-wise cut to create a sharp inward-facing point (to catch the mainspring hole)
- mounted one hook on the 'right-side' pillar, putting the loop over the pillar with the hook facing inboard, lining it up parallel to the winder shaft. I used another nut and washer to cinch it down at the bottom, but this configuration does allow for it to be raised if necessary.
- slipped the second, cut hook over the mounted hook, which allows it to be easily manipulated to hook the mainspring.

- While working on my Schatz #49 clock I discovered that the two sleeves for my mainspring winder were either too large or too small. I purchased a 1"-to-1-1/4" sleeve from BJ Plumbing that actually has an O.D. of 1-1/8" and it fits inside the barrel and around the wound spring perfectly.
